Discovering Arico Viejo: Tenerife's Charming Historic Heart
Marvellous Arico - a hidden gem

⛪ The Heart of the Old Town
The focal point is the charming main square and its church. Sadly the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista was closed when we visited, but the informative board outside provided a great potted history of the area and the building itself. It was still worth admiring the façade and soaking up the atmosphere of the square.
One thing to note: there are no cafés, shops, or facilities right in the old square. It's wonderfully authentic but bring water and any snacks you might need. The quiet adds to the peaceful feel — you really do have the place mostly to yourself.
💭 Final Thoughts
Arico Viejo is one of those hidden-in-plain-sight spots that rewards anyone willing to venture slightly off the beaten coastal path. It's perfect for lovers of history, photography, architecture, or just a bit of slow travel in Tenerife. The combination of traditional charm, scenic drive, and cooler mountain air made for a refreshing half-day escape.
📋 Tips for Visiting Arico Viejo
- 👟 Wear comfortable shoes for cobbled streets and possible short walks.
- 🧥 Take layers — temperatures drop noticeably with altitude.
- 📷 Bring your camera (and a charged battery — you'll want it!).
- 🐟 Combine it with a coastal stop in Tajao or El Porís afterwards for fresh seafood if you're hungry.
