Keepers of the Wild Nature Park, Valentine, Arizona
A non-profit sanctuary for rescued lions, tigers, bears and more on Route 66, and the guided tour is a must.

π¦ A Sanctuary on Route 66
Keepers of the Wild is a non-profit sanctuary on Historic Route 66, about half an hour east of Kingman, Arizona. It's home to more than 130 rescued animals, from lions and tigers to bears, wolves and camels.
π The Guided Tour
We took the 1pm guided tour and stayed until quarter to three. The guide was full of stories about each animal and how it came to the sanctuary. There's no breeding and no hands-on contact, just large, natural enclosures.
π» A Little Memento
I fell for a little black bear soft toy in the gift shop, and he's travelling the rest of the trip with us.
One thing to note: the guided tour is well worth the extra. You see far more and learn the animals' stories.
π Tips for Visiting
- β° Aim for the 10am or 1pm tour.
- π§’ Bring a hat and water, as there's little shade.
- π It's closed on Tuesdays.
- π΅ Every purchase supports the animals.
