Hotel El Rancho, Gallup: Sleeping With the Stars
A historic Route 66 hotel full of Hollywood memorabilia, with an old manual lift you'll want to avoid sleeping next to.

π¬ Hollywood on Route 66
Hotel El Rancho in Gallup was the base for film stars making westerns nearby, and the lobby is still full of signed photographs. It's a wonderful place to spend a night on Route 66.
ποΈ The Room
We chose a deluxe king. We were offered a room with a balcony, but it was opposite the traditional manual lift, which has very noisy doors, so we picked another room instead. Good decision.
π Dinner
We ate in the hotel restaurant, where the dishes are named after film stars. I had the Humphrey Bogart. Hearty and good value.
One thing to note: there's no fridge in the rooms and breakfast isn't included, so plan ahead.
π Tips for El Rancho
- π Ask for a room away from the lift.
- πΈ Spend time in the lobby looking at the photos.
- ποΈ Browse the trading shop downstairs.
- β Gallup Coffee Company downtown does a good pour over.
