Flagstaff
Flagstaff, Arizona, is a cool mountain town on Route 66 with a historic downtown, great coffee and the observatory where Pluto was discovered.
🌲 Welcome to Flagstaff
High up among the pine forests of northern Arizona, Flagstaff feels very different from the desert towns either side of it. Route 66 runs right through the historic downtown, alongside the railway.
🔭 Stars and Science
Lowell Observatory on Mars Hill is where Pluto was discovered, and Flagstaff takes its dark skies seriously.
☕ Downtown Wanders
The old train station houses the visitor centre, and the surrounding streets are full of independent cafés, shops and a weekend farmers market.
One thing to note: at around 7,000 feet it can be much colder than you expect, especially in the evenings.
📋 Quick Tips
- 🧥 Pack a warm layer, even in autumn.
- 🅿️ Downtown parking is pay-by-app.
- 🏞️ Walnut Canyon and Riordan Mansion are close by.
